Mere To Giridhar Gopal: Song from Hindi Movie- Meera

Tomorrow is Janmashtami. So I was thinking of some special song to post here on this pious occasion. This is one of the most Devotional Songs I have ever heard! It is from the Movie Meera by Gulzaar, here the role of Meera was played by Hema Malini. This song is sung by Vani Jairam, the music and the lyrics are So Pure... The original content of the song was taken from Meera's bhajan which are saturated with the Love for the Lord! I love to listen to this song again and again.

This is the Youtube Link of the Song:-

Here is the Lyrics of the Song ( Lyrics noted and translated by my Dear Brother Shivang and Dear Sister Rekha, I am so delighted to share it with all of you):-

Mere to Giridhar Gopal, dusaro na koi,
Mere to Giridhar Gopal, dusaro na koi,
Jaa ke sir mor mukut, mero pati soi,
Mere to Giridhar Gopal, dusaro na koi,
Mere to Giridhar Gopal.

(Translation: My Lord is Giridhar Gopal and none else. He wears the crown decorated with the feathers of a peacock)

Asuvan jal sinch sinch, prembel boi,
Ab to bel phail gayi, aanand phal hoi;
Mere to Giridhar Gopal, dusaro na koi.

(Translation: Meera says “I have been crying a lot (for all the pain I felt in your departure) and of those tears I irrigated the bel (prostrate plant) of love and now it’s flourishing and I am blissful because now it is giving me the fruit of joy.”)

Taat maat bhraat bandhu, aapano na koi;
Taat maat bhraat bandhu, aapano na koi;
Chhand gayi, kul ki aan, kaa kari hai koi
Mere to Giridhar Gopal, dusaro na koi.

(Translation: Taat, maat, bhrat, bandhu (all the relatives including parents, brothers and even friends), nobody is mine. Meera says that I renounced the reputation of family even and nobody can do anything to me that mean now 'only Krishna is my Saviour'.)

Chunari ke kiye tuk, odh leni loyi;
Chunari ke kiye tuk, odh leni loyi;
Moti monge utaare, banmaalaa poi;
Mere to Giridhar Gopal, dusaro na koi,

(Translation: 'tuk' means torn in pieces, 'loyi' means bhagwa vastra- orange clothes, 'moti monge' means pearls and precious gems.

Meera says that she tore her mantle (chunari) and put on the bhagwa clothes. She put off pearls and gems and wore banmala or garland made of tulsi and chandan wood.)

Mere to Giridhar Gopal, dusaro na koi,
Jaa ke sir mor mukut, mero pati soi,
Mere to Giridhar Gopal, dusaro na koi,
Mere to Giridhar Gopal.

(Translation: My Lord is Giridhar Gopal and none else. He wears the crown decorated with the feathers of a peacock.)

I have also included a picture of Hema Malini from the movie in this post. But sadly I could not find a picture of this particular song in the internet. Readers can watch the song from the given link to find out one of the Most Memorable Performances by Hema Malini in this Film.

Jai Shri Krishna
