RRR (2022) - Telegu Movie

RRR is another great creation from the eminent director S S Rajamouli. It presents the story of two freedom fighters of India- Alluri Sitaram Raju and Komaram Bheem. Though the film is an imaginary story, still, as it is presented with many references to the story of the great epic Ramayan, it is able to create a special interest in the audience. The story, direction and music- every aspect of the film is good. Ram Charan and N T R Junior has acted very well in their respective roles. After Baahubali, this is another chance for the audience to enjoy all the larger than life scenes in this film. 

The success of the film lies in the fact that it generates the interest among the audience to know more about Alluri Sitaram Raju and Komaram Bheem, about whom we do not find much information in our school history books.

I also liked the review of this movie by Do Politics and Chaitanya Charan- these two YouTube Channels. You can check out those reviews, searching them with the same names which I have mentioned here. They have covered many more detailed points about this movie.

Overall, this movie definitely presents an unique experience for the audience. 

Gotro: Movie Review

'Gotro' is a Bengali film directed and  produced by Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy. Main roles are played by- Nigel Akkara, Ambarish Bhattacharya, Saheb Chatterjee, Manali Dey and Anashua Majumdar.

Like all the other films made by Shiboproshad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy, Gotro also deals with a social problem, which is, the loneliness of the aged persons in todays world.

Muktidevi is a widow whose son lives in USA. He tries to appoint a caretaker for the house but Muktidevi rejects all of them showing some reason or another.

Lastly a person who is just freed from prison is appointed as a caretaker. Here the story starts. Gradually we see how the relationships between the main characters mature throughout the whole story.
There are other characters in the story like the maid of the house- Jhuma, and the priest, who bring the comic element as well as humane elements in the film.

The newly appointed caretaker Tarak or Tarek Ali, starts to become a member of the house by his sincerity and hard work. During one emergency, we can see that Muktidevi also moves beyond her rigid outlook and stars accepting as well as appreciating him.

In the later part of the film there is a nice sequence of a visit to a village in Odissa. Those scenes brought a different freshness and vitality in the story. We can very easily realise the importance of short trips or some changes in the daily lifestyle of aged persons. They become confined to their house with age. Gradually their activities also get dwindled. But such a nice change can bring about a new zeal in their life. Muktidevi truly enjoyed the trip with Jhuma and Tarak. So did the audience.

In the end, after some critical situations, we witness a puja where Muktidevi introduces Tarek as her second son. This scene is truly the culmination of all the events of the film. We all the feel the emotions of the both the mother and the son.

Here we can remember the story of Jabala and Satyakaam where the mother Jabala, gave her name to her son Satyakam.

And also we remember the film. Satyakaam by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, which also have this concept of recognising someone as a family member at the end of the film.


The film has a scene of Janmashtami, where I enjoyed the Krishna idol, the puja and the song by Aditi Munshi. In this situation there is also a messege of transcending the rigid concept of religion and embracing true humanity, which is very relevant in today's world.

'Gotro' is definitely a must watch film. Such uplifting story is needed more and more in our society.

Aparichit ('Anniyan' in Tamil- 2005)

Aparichit is the name of the Hindi dubbed version of original Tamil film- Anniyan made in 2005. It is directed by eminent director Shankar, who has also directed many famous movies such as- Gentleman, Indian, Nayak, Shivaji The Boss, Enthiran (Robot).

Aparichit is the story of Ramanuj who is a simple peace loving person. The corruption and wrong practices prevalent in the society make him frustrated and he starts having personality disorder. Gradually he develops two more personalities- one to punish the wrong doers and the other to become an a charming and fashionable person so that his lady love feels attracted to him.

The film deals mainly with irresponsible and self centred behaviour by public in general. I liked the theme of the film, i.e.- protesting against the wrong, trying to make it right.

Ramanuj's persona named Aparichit, which is there to punish the corrupt persons is very fierce, he follows the procedures narrated in the Gadura Puraan to punish the offenders, which are very cruel. I feel these parts were included in the film to show the irritation and frustration of Ramanuj about wrong deeds. Any normal person would be in shock or afraid even to think of doing such ruthless deeds.

Main theme of the film is very appreciable. It makes us aware of the wrong doings which take place around us constantly and thus we gradually become somewhat tolerant about it. Here Ramanuj protested against this attitude. Stress has been given on performing one's duty sincerely. Only then, the society can run smoothly, we can have peace, life can flourish without any fear.

Ramanuj's sister's death at a very young age due to the negligence of Electricity Board was really sad, the viewers can feel the impact of it. It is no surprise that Ramanuj was deeply affected by the incident. We can say that it is this painful experience which lagrgely shaped his character for the future (i.e.- assuming the role of Aparichit).

Overall, it is a film with a message, even if we do not support all the steps taken by Ramanuj, the Director Shankar deserves praise for bringing such a relevant topic of social reform through this film :).

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea:- The Film (1954)

The name itself is so famous! Jules Verne was indeed a visionary! His concepts and ideas were truly far ahead of his time.

I have read the story in my childhood and watched the film recently. It was first science fiction film, made in 1954, shot in Cinemascope. The film was produced by Walt Disney and directed by Richard Fleischer. Kirk Douglas, James Mason, Paul Lukas and Peter Lorre are the main actors. 

The search for a sea monster brings a scientist and his attendant and a harpooner to the submarine- Nautilus of the famous character Captain Nemo.

Gradually the scientist comes to realise the bitterness Capt Nemo has inside him, how he hates colonisation/ the powerful dominance of one country on the other.

We become amazed by all the inventions made by Capt Nemo and his team, how they use all natural products in their everyday life in the ship.

They go through many adventures which also include fighting with a giant squid, such a memorable scene! In the end, we see Nautilus gets attacked and Captain Nemo destroys all his inventions so that they do not fall in the wrong hands. Only the scientist and the harpooner comes alive from the water following the vast destruction. 

After watching the film we feel sad thinking how all those inventions which were destroyed could have helped mankind in many ways. Science could have used them according to the need of the society. But in his frustration Capt Nemo decided not to share his inventions with society. Thus the world lost a great talent and all his valuable inventions. 

Capt Nemo's character, so strikingly different from others, gets etched permanently in our memory.
